Well, to really screw up the date thing....the military goes by day/month/year, while most of us go by month/day/year. They also do the 0800 instead of 8:00am. My poor husband, who retired from the military, still has a hard time with AM and PM. We won't even get into the centimeters versus inches!!!! LOL

My DH used to have a ball on Halloween before we moved out to the ranch and quit getting trick or treaters. He would make a scarecrow and put a microphone in him. Then when kids would come up on the porch he would yell something at them. He also would make them come inside and do a trick...like sing a song or something before he would give them treats. But, now no one comes to our house. I always buy a package of large candy bars just in case someone shows up. But usually end up eating the suckers myself.

Aha, I should probably have joined the armed forces..:-) I totally agree with them on both the date thing and the hours. We don't do the am and pm thing here, we use the 24 hour system... Meaning that the time here is now 21.54. My alarm clock goes by the American time system though, and only has 12 hours. I often forget to check if it is set on am or pm, which very often results in a late arrival for work...LOL!

grammy65,
We don't have the 24 hour clock thing here...it is just am & pm same as you but we do have the wretched metric system here now and I hate it. I could never help my kids with their math homework because I had inches, ounces, miles, pounds, yards etc drummed into me when I was at school and my brain just wouldn't cope with any new figues. LOL.

No offense ladies. We do have some strange customs or ways that I am positive would be mind boggling to anyone not from the US. I don't understand some things myself. As for Halloween, I do not like it. It has gotten out of hand and too many sicko's have ruined it for kids. It is not like it used to be when I was a kid. I am happy that my Grandkids do not trick or treat except to our families homes. There are fun activities at Churches & Schools for them to go to.

Grammy, if ya tried to get a kid to come into your house nowdays, you might get arrested. Seriously!

Cathy32078'
I think every country in the world has it's own unique ways. Or should I say weird to someone on the outside looking in. LOL!! It's what makes the world go around...all of our different cultural ways. It would be as boring as bat sh*t if we were all the same!!!

I would hate to be from another country and trying to learn english. I heard a comic the other night who was hilarious when he talked about all the different spellings of words that sound the same.

Cathy...it's funny you should mention the "asking the kids in the house" thing. I was thinking the same thing when I posted it. My how times have changed. That was back in the 70's. We could still do it here where we live if we had any trick or treaters, but sure wouldn't try it in a large city.

So Kadie...do you eat Toasties? That was one of my favorite things while in Australia....along with meat pies. Sooooo good. Do you like Vegemite? Now that is something I think you would have to acquire a taste for!!!!

grammy65,
Not quite sure what you mean by "toasties". Meat pies are yuummmyyy and as for Vegemite, I was raised on the stuff as are most Aussies. I even have a kitten that likes to share my vegemite breckie with me every morning. All my kids were reared on it too. There's nothing nicer than the good ole vegemite on hot buttered toast to start the day!!

Kadie...The "toasties" I had were like grilled cheese sandwiches. They pressed them in a grill pretty flat. Just can't seem to find the right kind of bread to use.

I bought a little jar of vegemite. Not quite to my liking. I still have it, but I bought it in November of 2005. Are you supposed to refridgerate it? I just took a taste...OMG...not good. When I first tasted it it seemd kind of salty or something.
