Just had a chance to look at the woven trail block--love it and its just 4 colors and looks fairly easy (that' for me LOL). I could see the flowered fabric fussy cut in the center (used as the #4 color). Carol's start looks far too comloicated and like you, I'm not a paper piecer. get back to you later........carol

I agree that the chosen fabrics lack contrast, but they are pretty, soft colors. Since you are allowed to embellish, you could bring it some additional color that way.

And, naturally, I favor "Carol's Star" :)

P.S. Could you do something with the kaleidoscope approach?

I think it would look pretty as some type of basket block with the brown for the basket.

Two blocks that are shown in the pattern with similar fabrics and are very easy--I used both for a sampler I made for a "disaster quilt top". Go to quilterscache.com and select the 12 inch block patterns: Ribbon Quilt Block and Balkan Puzzle. They both make up very nice. Good luck, my friend, carol/kittyquilt

I dont know what this challenge is all about but I love the fabrics!!! I think they would make a pretty fan, with some lace embellishment, but probably not enough for blades...also would make a pretty soft dresden plate....They are so soft and pretty....or maybe some of those delectable mountains...have fun!!

When I look at those fabrics, a Rail Fence comes to mind. The one that had four 6.5" (unfinished) squares of rails.
