Thanks to everybody for all your wows! Yes, it does take longer without a pattern but then you can alter the sizes according to your wish. A great challenge to revise your school maths and geometry ... The bulky inside seams seem to be a bit of problem to me (then, of course, they have to be neatened). Besides finding your way of calculating the length of and managing the zippers I think it is necessary to figure out the optimum sort and amount of stiffening to make the bag stand upright and keep its shape ...
