Thanks for all the compliments. I used El's Quilt in a Day, log cabin pattern book, it has a section for different layouts for each size of quilt that was very helpful. This layout is one of those designs for a king/square queen size quilt. I tried different layouts, but because of the print and color of the fabrics this was the one that I thought looked the best.
DD#3 is working on a twin size log cabin quilt for herself. She started it during the summber but with school back in session she hasn't had much time to work on it. She has finished most of her blocks, she just has to decide on a layout.
Using El's method of string piecing makes it go so fast and I was finished with the blocks months ago. What took me the longest was deciding on a layout and a quilting design.
