Inka, your photo is a vision from one of my worst quilting nightmares! Aieeeeee!

Just random ideas: are you using a walking foot? Can't see it, I think your quilt is trying to eat it! lol! Your safety pins look kinda big; I wonder if using the 1-inch pins would help, and put them closer together--? I found through trial and error that smaller pins are less likely to cause lumps. There are clamps that will hold your quilt sections together once you get them rolled; maybe they will help as well? Can you find a larger clear space to work?

You might want to get your hands on QIAD's Machine Quilting Primer as well, for some tips. There is an excellent photo of the author, sitting at a regular sewing machine with the quilt rolled up, in clamps, and draped over her shoulder. I am finding this book enormously helpful. I have done stitch-in-the-ditch quilting and that's about it, but am feeling the calling to sharpen my machine quilting skills. Hoping to buy a walking foot soon so I can get started.

Hang in there; you have heaps of talent...you can do this!

OOPS...should have taken time to read the other responses...duh! Sorry about the repetition, but I have to agree with Calicopuzzle and others.

I HOPE TO TRY ONE OF THESE METHODS ONE DAY. I'M STILL NOT CONVINCED IT WOULD BE EASIER THAN QUILTING THE WHOLE QUILT. BUT THE METHOD DOES GET MY INTEREST, LOL

Inka, there are quilt as you go methods. I have a book by Nancy Smith and Lynda Milligan that's called "Divide & Conquer." It shows how to quilt smaller strips or squares and them put them together. I've never done it, but it looks easy. I saw them on an episode of simply quilts. Now that I got the book out, I might try one. I'll let you know how it goes. Lori

I just went online to HGTV and they have the instructional video for Divide and Conquer. Check it out. It's pretty amazing.
