Re: what does your sewing space look like
Geneva - wow - I bet you get lots done in your room. Looks like you have every tool you need and 3 machines all set up and ready to go. I love your clock and your color wheel.
Leetec - your area is neat. Why won't you go in the basement? I think if I had a basement I'd finish it out and make it my quilting studio - maybe then I'd have room for a long arm.
TooMuchFabric - I love seeing everyone else's room, too, so I can get ideas. My DH is building me matching cabinets w/glass doors to go on either side of my sewing machine cabinet. I can't wait for him to finish them but he seldom gets to work on them because he works 12 - 15 hrs. a day 6 days a week right now so I really can't say too much. He's out there now working on them but this afternoon it might be too hot. I'll get them sooner or later and then have nicer looking shelves for my fabric and room for more.

I love seeing the photos poste.
Cindy, I love your design wall idea. One thing you didn't see in my photos was the bi-folding doors to the closet where I keep all my fabric (except the fat qts. in a the three drawer chest under the big desk). Anyway, I was thinking of putting a design wall on the doors.
That is the only place I have space for a design wall.
Letec, I envy you having enough space for a comfortable arm chair.
I just don't have room for even a small one.
Yes, I love having my sewing machines set up and ready to go. You may have noticed the turquois towels folded up near each machine. My dealer recommended that I not put a fitted cover over them because of our famous low country humidity. I usually keep machines not in use covered with the towels.
Someone asked about embroidery designs. I get them from all over the net. I don't have a favorite but if you will PM me I'll be happy to share some sites with you.
Hugs
Geneva
PS I hope others will post phots of their sewing rooms. I love picking other quilters' brains.

Re: what does your sewing space look like
The work rooms posted here are magnificent!
I had posted pics of my sewing and quilting area recently Uunder "custom built sewing cabinet". I had so many wonderful and positive comments, and I sincerely appreciated all of them.
After years of searching for the perfect cabinet and having my machine set out on top of the table, the machine now being even with the cabinet is wonderful! I am ready to start the practicing on machine quilting! Yea!
I drew the desings out for my husband to build and he did a great job, he now has requests from others waning almost the same thing. The table is 52x71,and it is 32inches tall, just tall enough so that we could bring it into the room sideways!!! It is very heavy as it is solid wood! He also built the shelf for all my stash, but it seems to be getting full already.
The design wall is a foam insulation board covered with felt... As I use it if things do not want to adhere to the wall, I spray it with a small amount of quilt basting glue....Works great and is also very cost effective. This insulation came a sa 4x8 sheet so I cut part of off and made another bulletin board for the other side of the room.. It works great and looks like it belongs in the room!!
Now we are working on a cabinet for the Embridery machine and a storage system for rulers and threads. If you all have some good ideas send them my way.
Talk to you all soon!!

Re: what does your sewing space look like
My sewing room is under construction. We are adding on to our house it will include a sewing space, a space for my 8 foot quilting frame, and a master bathroom. So my sewing is temporarily in my bedroom. After seeing some of the rooms posted here I have already made changes and one big change is moving the bathroom door so I can have a design wall. A design wall seems to be a useful thing to have. How do some of you feel about having a design wall?

Re: what does your sewing space look like
No way am I sharing my sewing space(s). Nuyht uh!
When you come in the house (small duplex) you see the kitchen sink down the hall OR you can pop right into the living room. I have pizza boxes of blocks stacked in the corner of the living room.
Walking down the hall you'll see my hung up rulers. Right there amongst various pieces of art.
Our dining room is MAYBE 9' x 10' with a table for 6. I have all my rubbermaid bins in the corners. I have to set up and pack up EVERY time I sew. I swear, I spend more time in preparation than in sewing. Usually I keep my WIP on the chair at the foot of the table. I basically take over the table to sew. When I'm finished I leave what I hope to get back to quickly on the back third of the table. If I'm done for a few days I clean up everything.
It's summer so I often tell the kids to eat on the back deck. (yes, I know I'm mean) I clean the whole table off for weekend brunch and Sunday supper. Any other day of the week we eat in shifts, if I'm in the middle of something - like now for the tote swap.
I got to thinking how long I was pregnant, how many kids I'm raising (and doing a fairly good job) and how many midnight feedings ....etc.., I figure they can put up with me a little bit. I've always nurtured, supported and FUNDED their hobbies - not to mention all the hours driving them around. I think it's my turn.
Lately the kids have asked me to teach them how to clean off my supplies coorectly. When they want to have a friend over for a meal THEY clean up the fabric, rulers, mat and even the sewing machine. Talk about adapting to your environment!! LOL But hey, if I'm cooking they can easily tidy up. Afterall, I let them eat in my sewing room. (oh I crack me up)

LOL Justdawne - you are funny.
Busylady - I can't imagine being without my cheap design wall. I use to lay out quilts on the floor. My design wall is ever so much better. I love it.

Grammiequilts - I looked at your room in Photobucket. What a great, nice size room. I love the sideways drawers with the spools of thread in them. I looked at the rest of your Paducah pix, too. Wonderful quilts that you took pix of. I enjoyed your album.
