Pam, you did a terrific job on that label, and I love the minkee as a backing, it looks so cozy. What a wonderful gift to give your Dad for Father's Day.

Peachy, you must answer my nosy questions...
Was/is your dad a musician in the military? Did he play the baritone?
Were you born in San Diego?

Re: My Dad's Father's Day Quilt
Thank you so much for all your sweet comments, I appreciate it greatly! Vagrandma, what you wrote touched me and reminded me not to focus so much on the sadness of what Alzheimers has taken from my dad and I, but to celebrate what is here instead! Thank you so much for that. I have been struggling a lot lately with this. I guess it's human nature to focus on what's wrong instead of seeing what's right and embracing and celebrating the good. I know there will be times that the pics spark a recollection for my dad and will make him happy. Making this quilt was bittersweet in many ways, also very healing. It was a priviledge for me to be able to give him this on Father's Day.
Also, something very special happened that day. There are about 20 residents at dad's home and for some time now I've been planning on making them small lap quilts. There were about 12 of them sitting in the TV room that day, just sitting and had no visitors, etc... When they saw dad's quilt they came to life! Those who had walkers got up and came over to look and feel the quilt. They got so excited about the colors and the fussycut pics and loved the minkee! Every one of them said they wanted a quilt, too! One little lady was quite emphatic about her request! LOL! Anyway, it really inspired me to see their reaction and I am very excited to start making each of them a lap quilt more than ever now! It will be a good way for me to try out all sorts of patterns I've been wanting to make, and get experience on my HQ16 machine. I also think it will help me to be doing something for others to brighten their day, there's something so rewarding about bringing joy to others...it comes back to you many times over. There were many there who did not get a visitor on Father's Day, and I know it will mean so much to them to get a little quilt knowing that someone has remembered them. It truly takes so little to please them and make them happy, just being remembered does them so much good. Last year we did the Stockings for the Troops project and it was so rewarding. This year it's the "sweet little geezers" turn, and that is just an endearment I say, I mean no disrespect whatsoever by the term! Oasis made 12 gorgeous small quilts last Christmas and sent them to me to give to a women's and children's shelter in my area. I am thinking of making these quilts about that same size. I think I can load two at once on my HQ and do them at the same time. It's truly amazing, I went there to give a gift of love, and left feeling I had been given an opportunity to do something worthwhile and that I had been given a gift instead! So anyway, that's my goal, to put a quilt in each of their hands this year! I love that about quilting, it is such an opportunity to touch other's lives and give people a little piece of your heart! Oh my goodness, it was so touching to watch them get excited about that quilt and touch and feel it...it just goes to show, we quilters aren't the only ones who can appreciate cotton!!!!
