What a beautiful fur-baby. The quilt is pretty, too.

wow Cindy. I am stunned.

How on earth do you manage to do all those quilts on such a machine? It's very similiar to mine, in size, and I find it hard to quilt larger projects b/c of the small throat space!

You are an inspiration,
dawne

you should see the machine I use to sew the stuff on the letterman jackets for the high school kids. It is a very old Sears straight stitch/ zigzag machine that my DM bought in 1987. It is a very plain little old machine but a true workhorse! I save the newer fancier machines for the more delicate stuff. Leather and thick wool just don't always get along with the newer motors.

Thanks, Diana!

I wanted to show everyone that you can quilt with a basic machine. I STILL have problems getting 1/4" seam when I use my walking foot!

You don't use your walking foot for piecing do you? I have done lots of quilts on my Sears Kenmore small machine before I got my Juki. Now my Kenmore goes to classes with me and still runs like a charm. Harriet Hargrave's latest Heirloom Quilting book has pictures of tons of quilts all done on small home machines.....just delighted YOU are passing on the knowledge that it can be done!! And very nicely too!

Calico, how big is the throat on your Juki? Looks spacious to me! Would appreciate knowing...

CindyB, I will have to send in a picture of my Sadie. She is a Singer 257, a "portable" from the early 1970s. She still makes incredible even and tight stitches. I have sewn fabrics from tulle to imitation leather and nylon webbing with her...she just chugs right on through whatever I give her. I have done a bit of straight-line machine quilting on smaller pieces as well. She hasn't failed me yet!

The girl weighs a bloody ton, though...except for the bottom case, she is all metal. Probably why she has lasted so long!

CaroleJ, sometimes we forget - older is better! I worry about wearing this machine out!

I usually use my 1/4" foot, and it helps... sometimes I need my walking foot for specific things, and then I measure, and move my needle so that I can make sure to get 1/4" seams... believe me - it's necessary!

Here's mines. On the 1st picture, it's the machine that I always use: Singer 9410. Plain and simple to use. it's a model that was built for schools. I've bought it 10 years ago and I love it.

The 2nd one, I use it only occasionally. It's the machine that belonged to my Mom. Since she doesn't sew anymore, she gave it me last year. I've learned to sew on this machine: Singer 401A
