I make quilts for people when I am guided to do so. I have a ton of books with patterns at my disposal, but until the pattern speaks to me and the colors just sort of...happen in my brain, I can't make the quilt. Don't know if that makes sense, but an example is that I just made a flying geese quilt for my aunt with Civil War reproduction fabrics. I just felt that it was the right quilt to make for her. She has a farm with some really noisy geese and she has a lot of antiques. Part of my dad's house is a log cabin and one of his favorite colors is blue...guess what pattern I made for my dad? Even the way I arranged the blocks had significance. So, I don't think that what you are talking about is all that uncommon.

Sharon, I have found that when an idea is tugging at your heart and you follow through with what you are feeling, that the Lord is leading you to do it. When this is the case it works out perfectly.

Your quilts are beautiful. I'm very touched by your stories.

Christina, I understand when making a quilt we want to make it meaningful and apply the knowledge we have about the person into the quilt. It's when we 'don't know' why we make it the way we were guided to and it turns out to be significant.

I'm sure there are lots of stories out there.....we just don't hear about them.....

when we listen closely I believe we are given messages we would otherwise overlook. What wonderful stories behind the quilts here and I have a story too...Early in December my H stopped by the LA quilter and picked up the Christmas Quilt I had done for his Brother and SIL for Christmas, he casually mentioned the LA quilter said he had space for 10 more quilts before Christmas (he and his partner have 2 machines). I asked what we had for his parents and we had not bought anything yet so that night using fabric from a QIAD floral swap I did a large tossed-9. Christmas Eve when they opened it my MIL pointed to one of the fabrics and said that it looked just like the fabric in her mother's favorite apron, and that was the fabric that I had received duplicates of from the swap so it was scattered all over the quilt (one of the tiny floral prints). She got teary and then I also remembered that Christmas Eve was her parent's anniversary too.

Sewcarolyn, There was a purpose for you receiving those duplicates. Thank you for sharing your story.
