Re: current WIP - #2
Well, well ladies I must say I love this forum. I was thinking an autumn red might work for binding. So great to hear others agree, especially as you guys have quite bit more experience in these things. I will also look into maybe using a gold colour.
So, we have to decide what to call these things? Table runner trivets? Trivners? Runvets? LOL
As I am very new to the whole potholder thing and all I ever see described is Insul-Bright I'm a little tentative about the whole thing. We don't get Insul-Bright here so I had to buy what was available.
Just to be SURE this is a 4 layer quilt. Top, insulated batting, cotton batting and the backing. I've been told time and again that natural fabrics won't burn or melt like synthetics. Another reason to quilt with 100% cotton! I've also read about using denim on the back and will likely play with that for smaller projects to use up old jeans.
I think having the 4 layers is what caused the tromp'oeil effect - the trick of the eye. I hadn't planned on it but the pinwheels look shadowed, like they are popping up a bit. My friend and I just LOVE it!
I might possibly do this as gifts this year. quilting 1/4" from the 'ditch' to get that shadowed look.

Dawne, that looks great! Not sure about the binding color, though...do I see a hint of a gold color in the Xmas print...? Maybe that would work?

dawne, thanks for the inspiration! This is really clever and cute. Great idea to use holiday theme fabric on the back. Love it!

Those are very pretty Dawne, nice work. I have some insulbright but have not used it. I need to make some new potholder. Thanks for the ideas.
