Little red dot in square? HELP!
I am about to expose my ignorance. What are the little red dots in the little square boxes for. And why aren't there pictures in some where they say they are posting. I bought a camera and am trying to learn to post pictures but there are some of these things I just don't understand; Could be that I am too old to try but I won't admit it. cAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME?............

Kay,
Of course you're not too old!
I'm not sure I'm the right person to explain this (I'm no expert) but for a photo to show up on a web page it first needs to be stored on a computer/server that is available and aceesible for everyone at any one time.
So, in order to post pics here, the pic first needs to be stored in a place other than your own computer. QIAD does not have that capacity, so a lot of people here use other web-sites that provide that service (for instance Photobucket).
Once the pics are uploaded there, they all get a specific address. Then, when you want to post one here, you add that address in your post (how to do this has been explained in another thread here). What shows up in your post in the end is then not the address but the actual picture.
However, if you then for some reason go back and delete (or rename, or reorganize) the pic on the original web site, it will not show here any more. This is because the post here didn't contain the original pic, the post only showed what was on the address you gave it. So, sometimes when you just see a little square with a red dot or cross in it, that's what's happened. Also, if the web site where you have uploaded your pics is down for some reason, the pics will also not show in your post until the server is working again.

Kay,
HomespunMary has been very helpful for you already but I thought to show you the post about putting up photos. I found it helpful.

I think that you are not clicking on the "INSERT IMAGE CODE" then pasteing the code from Photobucket. It has something to do with all the HomespunMary mentioned (I think lol).
It would be numbers 8, 9, and 10 from the instructions posted.

I am not answering your question Kay, because I have not been successful posting a photo lately. I will tell you that it may not be you but the Internet Service you are using. I have been having difficulty seeing the pictures when I use Internet Explorer to view the forum posts. If I use Firefox it is okay.

The red x in the box means that the link to the photo is broken. In laymans talk that means that there should be a picture there, but for some reason, it is not showing up. Sometimes, it is because the complete address wasn't pasted, or the website where the image is stored is down. Sometimes, it is because your security settings on IE are wrong.
On this forum, you cannot post photos from your home computer directly. It has to be posted onto a URL such as snapfish, photobucket or image event. When you do that, you simply paste that address.
For example, I use Image event. I upload my photos there. (there may be an easier way to do this, but this is what I do). I select the photo I want to post here, and while on that photo, I right click and then click properties. This dialog box brings up the complete web address of that photo. I copy it, then paste it by clicking the insert image code box, and click paste.

Your digital camera usually gives you at least a temporary membership to a web gallery site. Check your users manual. Personally, I have used snapfish and kodak and photobucket, but I do not like them as well as I do Image event. I have used that website for 5 years and I have never had any problems.
