Ice Storm Pictures from Jan 2007

Post by Evie » Sat Dec 01, 2007 8:37 am

We live in Springfield, Missouri. This picture was taken right after our beautiful Bradford Pear tree fell. You can't see it, but between the chimney and deck is a floor to ceiling window. I was sitting by that window when the tree fell. I got up very quickly, but luckily it didn't break the window.

All that ice gets heavy on the tree branches and they snap off:

It's beautiful, but deadly:

This storm knocked the power out. We were one of the lucky ones, we only lost power for 8 days/nights. Brrr! The area was declared a disaster. Driving around town, it actually looked like a war zone. Trees down all over. We were on the waiting list to have an estimate done on tree removal. We waited 3 months just for the estimate, then another 3 months waiting to have the job done. DH trimed the top of the tree away from the back door so we could use the door. Very important for our dog!

Wow. Thos pics are impressive. Ice is so beautiful on everything to look at it all sparkles but your're right, it's so dangerous. I hope you never have to be w/o power for 8 days again. That's a long/cold time.

I remember a few years ago a noreaster hit the East coast and the pictures from the news were like something I had never seen before. There was ice wrapped entirely around homes and everything else. We have ice storms once in a while, and also terrible winds. About 2 week ago had 70 mph winds.
Also remember the ice storms in St. Louis. :);
