Re: Birthday quilt
Sorry I have taken so long to answer some of your questions.
This quilt was a birthday quilt for my best friend's husband, Dan. We all were supposed to go on an Alaska cruise and at the last minute the doctor was apprehensive about his going because he was to have by-pas surgery when we got back, so he didn't get to go.
This was a very easy pattern because I had very little time to do it. It is Squares Within Squares 2 from Quilterscache.
The pictures I down-loaded to my computer and then printed them on linen fabric sheets. You can get them at Office Depot or Office Max. I put them on white squares of fabric, put little bit of glue at a few places to hold in place and then I hand sewed them. The only thing I wish I had done was to put a little extra backing behind the pictures to give them a little depth. I learn something with every quilt I make.
Hope this helps you and don't hesitate to do one because it is super easy.
Love to all quilters and thanks for the nice things you said.

Great looking quilt! The prints really went well together and offered a great backdrop for your precious photos. ~Marcia
