Quilt Shows

Post by ladybess » Fri Sep 21, 2007 4:02 pm

I am going to a quilt show in Fort Worth tomorrow. I have never been to a quilt show (quit gasping). Anyway, do you have to get permission to take pictures? Are jeans and tennis shoes appropriate (I'm going to a football game later)? Will I feel too out of place going by myself (I am really bashful so this is going to be a real stretch for me)? Do you basically just walk up and down aisles? I'm starting to talk myself out of it...

Sorry, put this in the wrong category...I'm getting fuzzled...

Wear Comfortable clothes and shoes!!!
You can usually take pics at the shows but some shows are different and they should/will post a sign saying their preference. Some vendors don't want pics taken of their things hanging in their displays as they want to sell you the patterns, etc.
Most shows have a 'program/catalogue' but it depends a lot on how big the show is. The info is the name of the quilt, owner, maker, etc.
You can still have a blast going by yourself..........get lots of inspiration and you will oooooooohhhh and aaaaawwwwwwwhhhhhhhh many times over and over again!
Usually lots of vendors with fabric, patterns, threads, notions, gadgets, etc.
I've never been to a show that had a set route you had to take. Usually you just walk around at your leasure. Sometimes its best to walk the same row twice so you fully see all the quilts of both sides!
Enjoy!, go and have Fun!!! [wish I was there to go with you!!!]

I love going to quilt shows by myself because then I can look and look and take my time and not keep up with anyone else!! You can wear anything you want to a quilt show....there are no style police there! Yes you walk up and down display aisles depending on how the quilt guild has hung the quilts....you can look and enjoy and admire and learn just by looking at how someone else quilts. You should ask permission about taking pictures because some quilt shows don't like picture taking. Bring your camera and ask when you go in to pay your admission. Just remember the people that usually run these shows are quilters just like you and the rest of us....just trying to inspire others in the wonderful pastime of quilting!! So enjoy yourself because you will be soooo glad you went!!! :)

You will have a wonderful time!

I've gone to a few quilt shows and everyone just wears comfortable clothes! I think you will be surprised by how casual everyone will be dressed.

Word of caution - they don't want you to touch the quilts. Usually at quilt shows there will be someone there wearing white gloves that will fold the quilt around so you can see the back.

Ladybess, please don't talk yourself out of it. You will really enjoy the quilt show. The more comfortable the clothes, the better. One hint: Wear one pair of shoes for half the day and then change your shoes to a different pair even if it's another pair of tennis shoes. This refreshes your feet and legs and changes your posture so you don't get so tired. Sometimes at the quilt show I go down the same aisle more than once. I always miss something good the first time thru. Go, please, and have a great time. Going by yourself is a good thing - you can go at your own pace, look at only what you are interested in, and not have to worry about where your buddy is.

I love going to quilt shows & will go by myself often. Quilters are all about being comfortable. Some places will say no photographs & others will allow it.

Have a blast & hopefully there will be vendors that you can make a fun purchase to mark the occaision :)

Ladybess, I went to a show last weekend with my husband. We were celebrating our anniversary. We had lunch afterwards. You will enjoy the show. The quilts are so beautiful. Just wish I were that talented. Enjoy!
