Re: QC Gets the White
quiltcreator - don't know if you're here on the forum a lot these days, but ever since I saw this pic of your quilt last summer I have been thinking of it!
I really want to try the same technique - but on a much less ambitious project - but can't really decide what to use for batting for the trapunto parts. Since I too want to try the batiste thing, the batting used on the top layer shows quite a bit. What did you use?
I tried three different battings in a little practice piece last night, and am not really happy with any of them.
- the poly (that Karen McTavish recommends, although I didn't have the same brand) makes the colored "background fabric" shine through (see the two "blue drops in my test piece),
- the cotton isn't really even in color so that the "cotton lumps" show, and
- the polar fleece "bends" rather than fluffs up when the quilting around it is finished...

Has anyone else tried this and happens to have any thoughts on the batting?

You should have a blue ribbon in my book. What a beautiful quilt and so much work involved. I have often wondered at quilt shows how they decide which one wins. It is never the one I think should have taken the prizes. Guess I don't know what they judge on but we all vote to make yours the winner. It would really stand out. Love it, love it, love it.
Thanks so much for sharing the pics and your thoughts on the fair and judging. Consider yourself hugged across the miles. You deserve lots of hugs and blue ribbon too. Shirley Mae
