I put the seams together and sew a triagle in bottom, then I use plastic canvas covered with lining fabric....

that is a really cute tote. There are so many different types of careers fabric you could make a tote for just about anybody. I have some sewing notions fabric, maybe I will try out your idea and make one for myself.
