Short Arm machine quilting

Post by TooMuchFabric » Sat Oct 13, 2007 4:11 am

I would like to know how to line up the quilt top on the Little Gracie frame. I know it needs to be couple of inches lower than the backing when you start. Do you measure down from the leader cloth?

Additional question: When the roll gets larger under the machine arm how do you quilt the entire block?

I am just learning and about the time I think I know one thing another pops up that completely throws me.

Thanks,

Jo Ann

OK, here's the way I do it-
1) Make sure the top and bottom of your backing is squared.
2) Pin backing on the takeup roller and backing roller.
3) I float my batt and top.
4) After the backing is loaded, I lay the batt on the backing-keep it straight.
5) NOW, place a spring loaded clamp from Lowe's on your carriage in front on the wheels. This keeps it locked.
6) Baste- starting in the center to the left then center to the rightPush gently back so it cannot roll forward.
7) NOW, pin your top exactly on the perfect straight line you just basted.
8) I spray baste my top, borders and GO! Have fun, Amie
