when doing a pantograph and following from behind do you go right to left or left to right
I havent been able to make up my mind so I do both

garden, what kind of machine do you have? I always sew right to left. My Gammill doesn't like to sew left to right.

My Juki sews any way I want it to sew so I go back and forth across the quilt.

I go left to right on my APQS. I can go both directions, but my Liberty prefers left to right. I mean I have to go both directions when doing feathers or something like that. But with pantos it is definitely left to right and with over-all I start up in the left hand top corner and just kind of work my way to the right filling up all the quilting space.

what happens if you go left to right

I get lots of thread breaks and it's hard to guide.

I always go right to left and then I go back and do it again. I have a gammill.

I'm thinking that if you always go, for instance, from left to right, that the backing and batting might squoosh to the right and the quilt might come out being a little crooked. El says that when you are piecing 2 1/2" strips together go one way and then sew the next strip on sewing in the other directin to keep things from bending. I'm thinking in that same manner for the quilting part.

I know when you sew on a home machine compared to a commercial machine it is way different. That's why when you sew on the home machine you have to put a ton of saftey pins in it to keep everything from shifting.

Cindy, that's one of the reasons you baste the sides - to keep everything from "squooshing" to one side. On the Gammill you always sew from right to left. Nadine is right - quilting on the commercial machines as opposed to the home machines is way different.
