One little trick you can use is to stitch just an 1/8 of an inch away from the ditch. If you move a stitch or two over once in a while you don't see it as easily as you can when you're trying to keep the stitching in the ditch. Not appropriate for all quilting, but it is sometimes.

I use the narrow tape to guide. I am such a pain with myself because if it is not straight, I will take it out.
