Stippling: Stitches Identical?

When stippling a quilt, do all the lines/stitching need to be identical? Looks like puzzle pieces to me...Thanks for your reply.

Stippling and meandering can look the same, but stippling is much closer together.

The pattern for both is random, filling in the space with even density of stitches rather than the same pattern repeating.

It does looks like puzzle pieces!
