I've been asked to quilt a queen size for a church raffle. They want to know how much I would charge. I have an EZ quilter rather than a longarm which may take me a bit longer. Do I charge by the hour or by the size? Does it depend on what design they want?

When I was paying a long arm quilter, she charged by the sq. inch and the rate depended on the difficulty and the density of quilting done.

I take the length X width X .015
(or however much you would charge. This is where I start and then it changes depending on what kind of quilting they would like and if they want me to do the binding)
When I do a quilt for the church I do charge but they also know I give it right back as a tax deduction. This way it helps them and also me.

Greetings, Susan. I'm a longarm quilter from Wisconsin. I have a Gammill and have been in business for 7 years now. I charge by the square inch. A basic meandering is 1-penny per square inch, and a pantograph is 20% more. Custom work (using stencils and stitch in the ditch) is 2-cents an inch because it's so time consuming. Your EZ quilter doesn't have much room on your take-up roller like a Gammill does, so keep that in mind. You might have to turn the quilt half way because it will get too bulky. Good luck!

Cost of the new Gammill is about what in dollars?
I am looking at a used one, that has not been used for 6 years. The woman used it one year before she was ill and passed away. No one has used it since. I have seen prices, but am not really tuned in to the original prices brand new. Please advice. I am in no hurry to purchase this. thanks for your help.
