Longarming

Post by westsc318 » Thu Mar 18, 2010 6:34 pm

Does anyone know why I am getting what looks like little bumps, or knots on the back of my quilts in the stitching when I am longarming? At first I thought it was my batting, but now I think it might be thread. aAny suggestions?

You might need to rethread your machine and take the bobbin out and put it back in, make sure your needle is in properly or check the tension.

Have you joined Yahoos many longarm groups? Homequiltingsystems is the largest with over 3000 members. Lots of help there, Amie :o)

before you make your first stitch, make sure that your bobbin thread is on top of the quilt.

Great home town!! - Don't stay and stitch in the same place - the thread builds up knots that way.

Everybody is giving great ideas to troubleshoot.

Is your machine clean and oiled? I oil about every 4-5 bobbins. I even oil when my machine is idle - about every 2 to 4 weeks when I think about it.

What kind of thread do you use? I found my machine does not like certain threads. You may have to experiment to find out what's best for yours. I usually use Superior Sew Fine on top and Bottom Line prewound bobbins. Now I have no problems - (usually).
