I am so excited for you!! I have had my HQ16 for a year and love it more every day. It is such fun and very addictive :) I have done several charity quilts and have had two used for auctions and each have brought in over $600.00. I hadn't thought of making some for the local animal shelter and serging the edges but how wonderful that would be. I am going to call them this week and check it out. I only use King Tut thread, keep extra needles on hand and clean out the lint in the bobbin area every time I put a new one in. Enjoy yourself!! Happy stitching, Debi

Thanks, Debi! I'd love to see some pictures of your quilting.

I bought a book on free motion designs, but they are a little advanced for me. I'm thinking of looking for a more basic book to start with...any suggestions?

Sadie - I sit and doodle with the piece of paper and a pencil and do a pattern such as McTavishing. When you do it over and over on paper that motion sticks in your brain for when you switch to your machine and do the same pattern.

That's what I should do...practice on paper first. Thanks for another good suggestion. :)

A dry erase board works really well too. I have a small one and use it to practice.

Hi, my name is Harriet and I am new to the group. I have the HQ Fusion and I am an educator for Handi Quilter. I run a business from my home when I am not on the road teaching or attending shows. I look forward to chatting with you. I am in Indiana. For those of you nearby, I do teach out of my home.

Hi Harriet, welcome to the forum! How fun to have an HQ expert on here now. I wish you lived closer to me. How far do you travel for shows and/or classes? I hope you will share some of your quilt pictures with us and feel free to post any machine quilting tips that you can think of. What kind of quilting do you like to do? Free motion, pantographs, groovy boards...or do you have the Pro Stitcher?

Hi Harriet. It's so good to have you here. My BFF and I have an HQ16 on a studio frame. We learn something new every time we quilt. I hope you stay with us so I can pick your brain from time to time. Please post pix.
