I'm looking for any information regarding how I can use my embroidery machine to perform quilting on a quilt. I'm looking for designs as well as instructions for proper hooping. I'm hoping someone can help me out.

Thanks!

I have seen quilts where the quilting was done on an embroidery machine and it was gorgeous - just perfect. But how they went about hooping it and doing it is beyond me. I don't see how the machine can move the hoop freely with a wad of quilt in the throat of the machine. I'm interested to see what others have to say about it.

I am interested in learning how to do this as well. I did a search and found the following tutorials:

http://www.advanced-embroidery-designs. ... punto.html

http://www.myembroideryhaven.com/howto. ... howto.html

The information looks easy to understand...but remember looks can be deceiving!!!

Happy Stitching!!!

Thanks!

I agree. Looks can be deceiving. I would expect that this method would be difficult on the inside of a large bed quilt. I can see it used easily with a quilt as you go type method where you quilt the blocks prior to combining.

I have found that you use a hoopless method - that is you still use your hoop - just attach the fabric with temporary adhesive and then use your basting stitch on the embroidery icon on the machine. that holds it in place so that you can quilt using an embroidery program. I use this method a lot to do my embroider work.

My problem is learning how to adjust where the pattern starts!! so that I can move to the next area and make them join at the right spots!! Someday I will master that - I hope

Good luck
Jana

Several years ago I did a double/queen quilt on my machine. I hooped all 3 layers, but used a 80/20 thin batting. I also had a pre-programmed card I used. The only problem I had was the weight of the quilt would pull my design off one way or the other depending on which way the quilt was positioned around the machine. I only used the design inside a square and did not overlap anything.

I have learned a lot since then and would use the hoopless method if I do it again. Just remember to take your time and be patient.

If you are looking for designs try http://www.annthegran.com/'>http://www.annthegran.com/ . There are some talented designers on her site.

Good luck and post a pic when you can,
Sharon V.

What prevents hoop burn on quilts? How to remove?
