I AM INTERESTED IN THE BAILEY'S 15" HOME LONG ARM MACHINE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE LIKES AND DISLIKES, THE PROS & CONS REGARDING THE MACHINE AND IF THE STITCH REGULATOR IS EFFECTIVE WITH THIS MACHINE.

I'm not sure if anyone who regularly participates on the forum uses a Bailey but if you go to Yahoo groups, there are several groups specific to home quilting systems & I know I've seen info on Bailey machines.

Good luck :)

Hi Alohaval - If you have dealerships around you with different brands of machines, I suggest you go test drive the machines yourself. As they say - one man's trash is another man's treasure. I test drove all the mid-arm machines at the Houston quilt show for 2 years before my BFF and I bought one last year. We liked the feel and the features of the HQ-16 and that's the one we bought. If you can make it to a large quilt show where there are mid-arms for you to try all in one place, that's the best way to get a good comparison. And take notes as you are test-driving.

I agree with Cindyg - you should try all the different machines you can before making your decision. I thought I wanted a specific brand of LA and went to a large quilt show looking for a good deal on one. But while I was there, I tried other machines and was surprised to find how different they are. And I came away with a totally different brand! And I've never been sorry. Good luck with your hunting.

This is the first time I have tried to post a picture here. I have a bailey 13 inch. It was what I could afford. Had I had the money to buy bigger I would have. For the size it runs good and does a good job. I just want something that will reach out there and do something I want to do and the mid-arms don't cut it in that field.

Does anyone know anything about Bernina sewing machines? I inherited one and am intimidated by it.

Find a Bernina dealer and take classes. I love my Bernina's.

Going to a Bernina dealer and trying machines - and other dealers, too, for that matter - is a very good idea. That being said, I have a Bernina 1030. It was top of their mechanical line 20 years ago and it still purrs like a kitten. I love it, and if/when I ever need a new machine, I'll go to Bernina first. And you might consult Consumer Reports to see what they have to say regarding comparable brands. You may find something that will work just as well for you.
