Just bought a BL Jewel!!!

Post by bearpaw » Sun Mar 08, 2009 10:54 am

Hi all,

I'm new here. DH and I went to the quilt show yesterday and we bought the BL Jewel! I am so excited, I can't wait for it to get here!!! I was looking at both the HQ16 and the Jewel, and we decided on the Jewel. Basically, it's the same as the HQ16 with 2 more inches of quilting space-the main reason we went with the Jewel was the HQ16 dealer wouldn't budge on the price.

Anyway, I would love any hints or suggestions for thread and batting and any other beginning advice you could give me. I did notice that some people use two different threads - one on top and one in the bobbin and was wondering what the reason for that would be.

I have a HQ-16 and love it. It sure beats trying to shove a large quilt thru my domestic sewing machine and it also beats paying the money for a long-armer to quilt for me. There is, however, a learning curve. I learn something new every time I put my hands on it. Did you get a video with your machine? Watch it if you did. And take a class if there is one offered. You will get better at it as time goes on.

BearPaw, good for you. The BL Jewel is my choice of LA as well.
I am still saving up for it.

Let us know how it works out for you.
What frame do you have it on?
I do have the pinacle frame allready.

HQ16 LA or the Jewel will be my choice when I buy one. Good Luck!

Thanks everyone! I can't wait till it gets here. We bought the HQ16 Studio frame. They had an HQ16 on the professional frame and one on the studio frame. The studio frame was so much sturdier. Definitely less vibrations. When we were looking at the Jewel, we asked if it would work on the Studio frame and it does. :)

Congrats on your Jewel. I too reciently purchased one. I just love it! The first 3 weeks I finished 7 UFO! I reciently purchased pannels to practice on and then I will donate them to charity. I have been using surger thread and not having any problems. I also, thanks to a friend, purchased the HQ quilting DVDs. They are really wonderful. I have watched them twice so far but it was a quick run through. The next time I watch will be in the sewing room and a slow go through.

I also have an HQ16 and the Studio table. That table is the berries. Very sturdy.
