Janome MC6600p

Post by lvloons » Sat Aug 09, 2008 9:26 am

I am considering buying a Janome 6600 sewing machine that has only been used a couple of times for a pretty good price. I would like to know if this machine has a mock hand quilting stitch. If so do you users like the way it looks. Thanks for your reply.

I am not familiar with this machine. I think your question might get seen or answered if you would maybe post it under Chit Chat. It gets a whole lot more traffic over there. Good Luck. And I hope to see you here with us more often.

I have this machine and I do not believe it has a mock hand quilting stitch. I have certainly not used every stitch it has but I cannot find it in the instruction book. i have had very good luck with my machine with one fallback. When I try to use the larger spools of thread such as the 1200 yard spools, the thread tends to come out of the needle when I try to start a new seam. I have to remember to pull the thread out some until the spool gets a little lighter. Although I sew a lot, I would not consider myself any more than an amateur so I certainly don't use all the stitches (it has a lot). The other thing I just though of, It seems like the bobbin is a bit small. Might be my imagination. So I guess it would depend on how much you want that stitch and if the price is good enough. I think I paid around $800 or so for mine.

Send a PM to quilterbee if she does not see this soon. I think she is the Janome 6600 specialist!

I have this machine and I love it. I have never used this stitch and I know it is NOT listed in the manual. However, I am a member of the 6500/6600 Yahoo list and I know they have talked about it. I just do not remember which stitch and settings they use. I think they do some tension/pressure adjusting with it. Why don't you go to yahoo.com, click on groups, and search for the 6500/6600 list and join it. You will learn soooooo much about the machine.

I didn't join it until after I had purchased the machine. I have three other Janomes, so knew I wanted one. I checked with my dealer, but poor guy, he doesn't know. He told me to check the internet site, so I did and printed out all the specs and compared a couple of their machines. There is a section on the janome.com site with instructions and a place to email with questions. She could probably answer your question. If I have time, I'll try to check through messages on the group. Oh, I think some people call it a sculpture stitch.

Great idea to go to the Yahoo group for this machine. I also have this machine and I love it. For thte mock hand quilting stitch you can use invisible thread on the top and regular thread in the bobbin. You adjust your tension so that the bobbin thread shows on the top and looks like a hand quilted stitch. I read about this but have not tried it yet.

My friend has a Viking machine that has the mock hand-quilting stitch but I don't know the name or number of that machine. I tried to call her but she's not home. If I find out later I'll let you know.

I have this machine and love it. The Accufeed system is great. It has lots of space to work with and it has zillions of stitches that I have never used, maybe never will. I don't know if this will be your only machine and if you intend to take it to classes, retreats etc but it is HEAVY. I like that though. It's very solid with a steel base. The plastic factor on a lot of machines is quite high.

I have this machine and love it. I've only had it about 4 months. It has great features for the cost. I tried out the Sapphire and it was twice as much and I wasn't that impressed. Lori

I love, love, love, love , love my Janome 6500! It does everything I need it to do so I have not gotten interested in buying the 6600, but I know it's a fabulous machine. The Yahoo groups are great! However, Janomes are so easy to sew on, you won't need the groups. But, they are fun :o) I sold my Bernina after I bought my Janome, can you believe it? I sold it on ebay! I have never missed it since I stepped up to the BIG machine. I just can't say enough about Janome, they are THE best in my opinion. That said, I still do love my vintage machines, too. But, in a diffferent way :oD Amie
