Great Learning Opportunity

I was at my quilt group this last week and was offered a chance to learn to use a LA machine. It was the biggest surprise ever! I met this lady who came in to drop off her aunt and we began talking, one of the other ladies showed her one of my quilts that I had machine quilted on my Baby Lock. She asked if I had a LA and I explained I did it on my home machine, she said she had a LA and if I ever wanted to learn to use it just to give her a call.

As the conversation went on I heard someone mention her last name. I asked her full name and she had already mentioned she was retired acitve duty Army. Turns out that she was stationed with DH in Germany when DD#3 was born and he was promoted to Warrant Officer. They have crossed paths over the years and she remembered him well. She looked familiar but I thought it was just because I had seen her drop her aunt off before. Well she gave me her phone number and e-mail and asked me to let her know when I was available for a lesson.

I am so excited, she said that if I wanted I could use her machine to do my quilts. She makes charity quilts for a group known as Quilts Of Valor, for recovering soldiers returning from Iraq.

What a fabulous opportunity Ann!!!!! WOW! That doesn't happen every day. And to learn you had crossed paths in the past, Wow! I am so happy for you!!!!!!!! This will give you a lot of insight as to what you will want or need on your machine and the brand too. What LA does she have? Ohhhh I am excited for you! A teacher right there so you do not have to learn it all by trial & error. It doesn't get any better than that! And you now have another quilting buddy. The Quilts of Valor is an awesome project! I have seen pics of some gorgeous quilts made for that group. I am so happy & excited for you. When is your first stitching date? Please let us know how it went and what you thought. Your opinion may help others in the decision making.

Hugs & Love

Oh, SewSew, that is awesome and I'm an ugly shade of green! What a great opportunity. Some long arm quilters don't even want you breathe on their machines because they are so expensive. This lady is offering to let you use hers and give you lessons, too. That's so great!!! Do you know what kind of machine she has? Oh, I'm just so excited for you.

It is a small world and instances like this prove it all the more. I can just imagine a lot of fun times and a great friendship developing. I think things happen for a reason. Have fun!

Cindyg, I sent her an email this morning and am waiting to hear from her. She has children in elementary, middle and high school, so I am letting her set the date and time. My DD#3 is a senior in high school so my time is more flexible than hers. I hope that we will be able to get together sometime next week. I will let you all know how things are going, when they get going.LOL
