Quilting while on the road?
Ladies, I came here with an unusual question, though I believe you can help me.
I am looking for a basic sewing machine which is portable, preferably lightweight and can be used during the road trips. We're visiting our distant family members, and since we're going to rent a motorhome, I'd like to keep working on my current quilts. So I'm looking after something that doesn't cost more than $300.00 and that can handle making quilts, and it would be lovely if this machine was user friendly.
I am not looking for anything fancy, but I'd like to keep it for our future trips (if it would be a good experience, of course!).
So if you already tried quilting during the road trips, I'd be glad to know more about your experience. Our trip is planned for sometime late August - mid September, so I have some time to choose.

Re: Quilting while on the road?
Something went messy with my topic, so I'll write this again:
As for now I'm choosing between Brother XM2701 (http://nymag.com/strategist/article/bes ... hines.html), Singer 1304 (https://www.thespruce.com/best-beginner ... uy-4137153) and Janome 3128 (https://sewingland.org/best-sewing-mach ... under-300/), but I'm worried that it might not be suitable for thicker materials. Unfortunately, I've never tried these before, and that's why I'm worried about how durable are they. At home I have a nice Juki with a long arm, but guess I won't have much space at motorhome, so I need something small.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Ladyfalcon,
Brother machine is always best in sewing or quilting. For sewing machine check ithttps://trenditex.com/best-heavy-duty-s ... g-machine/
For small quilting machine, Janome 1600P-Qc might be a good choice.

Re: Quilting while on the road?
I am on the road right now for two months in Alaska in our fifth wheel. After I bought a new Bernina last summer, my old Bernina 430 became my travel machine. Not as small as some models but since Bernie’s are all metal, they are durable for bouncing Roads. I had a small Janome and it worked fine For piecing while on the road. But I gave that to my daughter when I got my new machine. I would check user groups for comments and evaluate just how much sewing you want to do on the road. But if you’re going to invest money in a machine, you want it to be good enough that it will last. Don’t buy a machine from Walmart. Been there, done that. They sell seconds. Good luck and have fun on your trip!

Interesting, but I'd suggest buying smth versatile that you can use at home and on the road for various projects! I own Brother that is cable of sewing, embroidering and quilting!Bought it on amazon found a review here https://pickadvisor.org/best-embroidery ... -for-hats/ It's number 2 on the list! An amazing machine!ladyfalcon wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2019 9:57 pmSomething went messy with my topic, so I'll write this again:

I have a small Bernina 230 that's very portable. You can probably find something used in your price range that is reliable. Good luck.
