babylock question

i have the babylock espiree that i bought in class at paducaah a couple years back now i have a small problem that ive not heard anyone mention i was going to prepare the paper to paper piece on you are supose to unthread the needle and perforated the sew lines on the paper with the needle only well its sews about 4 stitches and chimes in to rethread the needle and of course that makes the machine stop each time it does that so is there away to by pass this rethred notice thats stops the machine every few stitches its bad to have to get out another machine (not computerized ) to do this with but so far thats what i have to do

Hi Glenda, That's a really good question!! I've wondered the same thing. I'm going to do some experimenting and will let you know if I can figure out how to do that. I am not a big fan of paper piecing, but when I do it, I have never pre-sewn the lines with needle only. If we can't figure out how to do what you want, maybe you can just charge ahead and sew without pre-sewing.

ann be sure and post if you figure it out the reason for sewing with out thread is it makes the paper tear off much easier and you can see the lines better when you are sewing to it

Take a business card or a piece of thin cardboard and slide in in where the tension discs are. Then go ahead and sew. This will trick the machine into thinking that it is threaded and it will then sew. I have a Janome 10000 and that is how I do it. Good luck.

Ollie, I do not have a Babylock, but my Janome machines do this. This is a safety feature to let you know when your thread has broken. They don't want you to be able to sew without thread. So, you have to fool it into thinking it is threaded. My manual actually tells you how to do this. They tell us to use the case that our little scissors came in, but a business card would probably do the trick also.
