quilting machine and frame. Need advice Please!

Post by zeba » Thu Feb 19, 2009 7:03 am

Hi all. I'm new here and have been making quilts for a few years. I've been struggling quilting them on my regular sewing machine, and I'm ready to make the jump into getting a machine quilting system of some kind. I was thinking of getting a GMQ-Pro frame then getting a midarm machine, but I'm not really sure. Does anyone have any suggestions? What should I be looking for?

Welcome to the forum Zeba, Last year I bought a used BabyLock Quilter Pro machine with a New Joy Frame and I just love it. It is limited to about 5 inches of quilting area at a time and of course it makes me want a bigger machine but finances prohibit that.

Welcome Zeba. I have the Little Grace II frame with the Baby Lock Quilter Pro machine and I like it. I am only a beginner. I really am pleased and it fits in my limited space and into my budget.

Hi, Zebra, I also am new here. I have a Janome 1600P which I adore. It is a real workhorse. I bought a New Joy Gold Standard, which I really like. Especially since I have practised with it a few times. Wish I could afford a long arm but, then I would have to go into business.

hi, when i retired my friends and co-workers went together and bought me the GMQ-Pro quilting frame. i got it in november of 05, set it up in my den and put my singer machine on it, i quilted 5 tops for christmas for my grnadson's. wasn't anything fancy just a lot faster then trying to hand quilt. since then i have turned out a lot of quilts, you are really limited in the space with a regular machine but for meandering or stippling it is just fine. i can stich in the ditch. or use the panograms if they are not over 4 inches. The first of the year i bought a viking 870. it has a 10 inch throat and cuts the thread. which is great. the grace frames do take up a lot of space but i live in a old house with just my 90 yr old mom. so i leave it set up in my den all the time, well it always has a top on it ready to quilt.

My quilting buddy just got a Gracie frame and a Brother1500. I am going to have access to its use. Any advice?
