I don't pin a whole lot unless I need to "ease" in a longer piece of material. I definitely do not sew over them, because this happened once and damage my bobbin case. The replacement cost of that was $35.00. A costly lesson!

I'm a pinner all the way. BUT, I don't sew over them
That's just something I'm not comfortable doing.

If I have to use pins I pin far enough from the edge to clear my pressor foot so there is no danger...and i mean danger of hitting a pin and having a piece of needle or pin fly up in your face.

I have read articles from Alex Anderson of Simply Quilts. No-NO-No
Never sew over pins. Now, I pin alot, but I do not sew over them.
The other ladies here have spoken and they are correct---do not sew over them. They may cost you a bundle when you don't want that to happen.

Re: sewing over pins do you do this????
I have seen pins and needles broken when sewn over and the pieces go flying. Now that would definately hurt if it got in the eye. Plus, they can mess up your machine if they get down in the workings. I too use the needle down position so it is in the fabric when I pull the pin. If I cam worried about the fabric shifting, I put the pins back far enough so they are out of the way of the sewing machine needle.

I used to sew over my pins when making clothes....now, I do not. I remove them. If you hit one , it breaks or bends the needle...could fly off and end up in your eye too.
