Disaster quilt blocks

Post by CindyB » Tue Oct 23, 2007 9:51 am

With the fires in California, my store of disaster quilt blocks will be depleted (I am sure!)

If you would like to help out those that have lost everything, in this disaster or future ones, here is a way you can help:

Use the scrappy star pattern:
http://www.quiltinaday.com/eleanorandco ... eepattern/
This will make a 12-1/2" unfinished block (and you don't have to put the 16 small blocks in the center - just use a 4-1/2" square or fussy cut design instead, with:

light colored background
blue star points

OR

Girl colors!

Let me know and I will PM you my address, send it to me and I'll get tops assembled and quilted, and off to those in need.

This is a way we quilters can help out, give a hug, and keep someone warm who may have nothing but the clothes on their backs!

Take Care,

Cindy

Hey, I like the option of fussycutting a center square instead of the 6 blocks in the center of the star! It might be cute to alternate them, one fussycut center and one 16 patch center. I love-love-love fussycutting!

Oh, I have some wonderful fabric that will be just great for fussycutting--I love doing that, too GP. I have some fabric that will be good for the girls as well. Thanks for suggesting that idea. Pls PM me your address. Thanks for bringing this up for a chance for us to do something for these disaster victims.......carol/kittyquilt

Loretta, fussy cutting means you are cutting out a particular image from the fabric...might be a bouquet of flowers, for example. You line up a template or square ruler and cut around the image, rather than cutting strips or blocks at random.

Clear as mud?!

Pls correct if I'm confused, but I think the center block if it's fussy cut or just solid needs to be cut 6 1/2 inches, rather than 4 1/2?

Carol, you are right. The center block is 6 1/2" (unfinished) square and you use the 3 X 6 Flying Geese ruler to make the geese units then 3 1/2" squares for the corners.
