Welcome to Lotto 2024! January block

As we close out 2023 I have tried to come up with something new for 2024. I have decided I need to look to the joys of the New Year, new beginnings, new ideas, etc. I have had many different ideas and with help from a wonderful friend I have decided: We need to put a little challenge in our sewing to continue to grow. So we will be creating blocks with a bit more challenge. But nothing too hard to begin with. This is called the disappearing Pinwheel block and is a MSQC tutorial. I thought a good place to start the year. We will use WOW background and happy colors (think Spring, Summer, florals, etc) for the color parts. I am okay with darker florals if the floral part is a nice color. I have some really pretty black backgrounds with lovely pink flowers. PLEASE NOTE FOR MARCH You will need a layer cake Dresden plate ruler. Amazon has them for about $12. Or I think the measurements are listed on MSQC site. You could make one out of template plastic or cardboard. I can also let you know when mine arrives. If you don't want to purchase one, I understand. But your gonna love the block! Please ask if you have any questions.

Here is a sample, needs a little pressing but you get the idea.

That same ruler is $10 on the MSQC site. And if we had an idea of your color plan mabe I could buy a layer cake to go with it

Yes, that block sure could use a good pressing

You don't need a layer cake, it is done in 2.5 inch strips. It is called layer cake as it is 10 inches and most of the others are only 8. I think scrappy is good. Just watch lights and darks.

I was going to order from MSQC but by the time I paid shipping and tax it was over $15. Hence I ordered from Amazon. But you can all order or make your own as you see fit.

Lori, It does make a cool quilt. I made one block and it's not difficult at all. I followed along with the tutorial. This would be a neat one to win.

Valerie. I just watched the video, I love this block. I don't know how you have time, working two jobs and dealing with all you do, but I am glad you do, KathyRe

VAL, what a cool block. And what an odd coincidence, I was watching this very MSQC video just 2 days ago and got interrupted so I still had it up on my computer! I'm traveling and not sure what all fabrics I have with me and won't be able to get to them for another week. Or if I'll even have time to set my sewing up again before we get home Feb 1st~ish. But I'm gonna try!! Thank you!

Val, I hope I can, too. I'd decided I wanted to make this quilt even before I saw the block you posted for Jan! I've already checked the hours of the LQS 2 miles from our campsite - CLOSED today. gosh darn it. We plan to visit Cindy and Sue tomorrow - maybe I'll have Bill distract them so I can "visit" Sue's sewing room . . . . I bet she has lots of lovely fabrics just laying around . . .
