Welcome aboard all. Posting a bit early as many go on vacation and we can't have Mary making shirts!
We will be making Pat Sloan's Summer Soiree block. Here is the link:https://www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2021/ ... oiree.html
It is a simple block to make but easy to get turned the wrong direction. So this month we are practicing "paying attention and reading directions!" Yes I tend to look at pictures and not read.
Things you need to know:
Use batiks please. I have posted some samples. You can tell a batik as it feels different (don't know how to describe) but it is the same on both sides of the fabric. No front and back. If you can see a distinct front and back it is not a true batik. Backgrounds can be neutral or as is common with batiks some color in them. Please see picture. Color is most often a marbled look with light color. This is okay but make sure the color matches with your color part of the block.
I squared up the half square triangle and pieced square before sewing the block together and the blocks came out right at 12 1/2 inches. I also swirled the seam on the back so it will lay flatter.

Please note how the blocks, depending on how they are put together are going to make a secondary pattern. As always, if you have questions please ask. I can share if someone wants to play and doesn't have batiks. Just let me know.
And have a safe Fourth of July!
