Week five sew along

Post by mepeace2 » Sun May 02, 2021 11:14 am

This weeks block means a lot to Eleanor. Its called My Mother's Apron
The pattern can be found in Els Kitchen Book
If you do not have book please use following.
Apron wedges cut 6 2 3/8 by 10 inches
Waistband cut 1 2 1/4 by 12.5
Background Cut 1 11 by 12.5
You can use rick rack to finish or just applique to background
Wedges mark 1/2 inch from edges on both sides
cut from bottom edge to mark on top.
Sew six wedges together press seams open cut top straight
Curve bottom corners.
Either put rickrack on or applique to background. take background and fold in half to mark center. Center apron and pin to background . attach.
Waistband put right sides together . Waistband to background. sew and press seam towards band. Square block to 12.5
This will become clearer when Mary puts pictures in.
Have a good time with this one.

I looked up a picture from QIAD site. Where you can order the book, they have a picture of the block.
I take it, we are not putting a border around with corner squares. From your directions, it looks like the waistband gets stitched on after we applique the apron to the background square. Am I understanding your instructions correctly?

Here's my block. My Walmart here in Shelbyville, is small. Only a very limited choice of sewing supplies. Found this lace to edge mine. I was looking for rick-rack. Now I am glad they didn't have it. Forced me to put in my thinking cap. 😉

Velda..

LOVE your apron! The lace is perfect! I was thinking about some lace on mine too!
It's so fun to see all the different ways a pattern looks with different fabrics!
