Chickie, I play around with mine on a scrap first but on these I used zigzag 20 on the width and .50 on the length for the smaller pieces and 30 on the width and .50 on the length on the bigger pieces.

Here's my Sam before sewing him down, he took me 4 hours from downloading then printing to fusing him down on my background.

Wow he's cute Tina! I love the Mexico one's for next month. I might just do the Sue's. will have to see. I have a couple of row by row's I signed up for last July, a Americana one & a Spring one from Dreamworthy quilts. You do a row each month & then she'll give you the pattern for the next month. The row by row's won't finish until March so I need to finish them first.

Farmchick, I have a Bernina sewing machine & I just use the quilting satin stitch it comes with. You can change the width or length. I change the width sometimes when I go around small corners or the smaller parts, otherwise I keep it on the general setting.

These Sams and Sues are so cute! I love the colors and putting them on a black background really makes them pop!! Can't wait to see more of them!

I'm going to redo my Sue, I wasn't thinking and used white batting, I ordered black. I don't want to put so much effort into these and take a chance on bearding.

Thanks for the info on the settings. I have a Pfaff that I purchased used. I lost my Bernina 153QE in the fire. The Pfaff took some getting used to, but I really like it most of the time. I wish it had a "real" walking foot; it has a dual feed that doesn't seem to be quite as efficient as a walking foot. I need to see about the "flexible" settings in the corners--if mine does it. It seemed like the Bernina did the blanket stitch easier than this does, but I try to manage. For the most part, I'm quite satisfied with my machine. I need to get a spring loaded quilting foot for it. It doesn't seem to like free-motion quilting as well as the Bernina... I am not good, so I don't know why I think I can compare machines.

My black batting arrived today! I have my Mexico Sam all traced and cut out on fusible. After the boys go home then I'll find the fabrics I want. Hopefully will get a pic posted in the next couple of days :-)
