Post by TeresaK » Tue Aug 25, 2015 6:33 pm

What a FABulous Month September was!!! The blocks are FABulous. The colors, your choice of Fabrics - PERFECT!!!! The Flying Geese block is not an easy block but Eleanor makes it easy and I Thank You ALL for giving it all you have, hanging in there and not giving up. You ALL are Winners!!!
* * * CONGRATULATIONS to the WINNERS of 12 blocks each!!!!
Shelly322002 - Jacquie ... mailing 10-2
Aprilshowers - April ... mailed 10-1
JayKay - Joyce ... mailed 10-1

P.S. Please accept my apologies. I am trimming my Flying Geese and sorting them into the blocks. If you wish I can send them in Baggies so you do not have to wait for me to sew them together. Please let me know.
*******************************************************************
Hi Pals and Welcome to the September Lotto FUN!!! This month we are going to be playing with some Flying Geese that are getting ready to fly south. So get out your Fall Fabrics with some Medium Creams and Tans and ENJOY the FUN and anticipation of WINNING!!!
Image
Here are some of Mary's FG she has made. She will be working them into blocks soon with some other FG after she plays with the grand's. Family always comes first!!
Image
Link to Making Flying Geese - You will be using 7.5" geese squares and 9" background sq's to make the 3.5"x6.5" FG. El is making 4x8's which use the bigger squares. Same method though so we are good: http://www.quiltinaday.com/television/v ... eruler.asp
HERE ARE THE POINTS TO FOLLOW:
* This is NOT a SWAP. It is a place to practice and enjoy making new or old blocks and luckily WINNING enough to make a FABulous QUILT!!!!
* Sign-ups let me know who wants to have FUN unless Emergencies get in the way.
* COMMUNICATION is the Key. Please ask questions and let us know how you are doing :)
* Block size: 12.5"+
* Time to use up those scraps first if you can using a 3.5" x 6.5" different rectangles for the geese and (2) 3.5"sq same colored squares for the background. Try to use different backgrounds for every geese to get the scrappy look when sewing the block together OR OR OR you can use El's method and make FG using different 7.5"sq fabrics for the geese and different 9"sq fabrics for the background. Both ways are GREAT!!!
* Fabrics: Any Fall Print's for the centers. If you have Fall Wildlife Fabric I hope you use it.
* Fabrics: Light Mediums Creams and Tans Small Prints or TOT's. Would like a great contrast to make the centers POP.
* No Solids please
* If you use a Check Fabric please line up your ruler on the lines on the fabric to cut them straight and not crooked.
* PLEASE MEASURE to Check and Re-check that your Flying geese are the right size BEFORE Sewing them together into a block.
* Watch your Points and your 1/4" seam. Please make a Sample block to check that your 1/4" seams are not to big.

* PLEASE "Name Tag" each set in the FRONT TOP corner and Place ALL in a LARGE BAGGIE. Mailing labels are great for this :)
* SEND $2-$3 to help with shipping the sets to the WINNER'S

WAYS to RECEIVE your WINNING tickets ...
* 1 ticket = Sign-up is a show of interest if time allows you
* 1 ticket = for each block
* 2 tickets = for each block after #3
* 2 tickets = if your sets reach me by the 28th of September
* 1 ticket = for Poetic bribes :)

WAYS to RECEIVE EXTRA TICKETS
* We need some Newbies to come join the FUN!!! So if you invite a Pal to the LOTTO who hasn't been part of the Lotto this year and you both make at least 3 sets you will both receive 4 extra tickets - YEA!!

Lovely blocks!
Although if you want different fabrics in different corners, I don't think we'll be able to use 'El's' way of making the geese, I think we will have to use the old traditional method... But that's ok :)
I'll have a look at fabrics later... off to work for me this morning!!
Hugs!! J xxx

As I recall there is a way to get different colors of triangles in the same flying geese block using El's method. I will try to find the directions.

Count me in. I recently finished a flying geese quilt top for my DGS out of angry bird Star Wars fabric, but I think have a few more within me. I have always been intrigued by Dutchman's Puzzle.

Oh Silly me!!! My eyes are looking at the pattern again and I see that the corners are the same in each FG. You can still use El's method and put the blocks together using different centers.
So if you made multiple geese using different fabrics in each one you would be set to put each block together and make it a scrappy look.
I will also make the picture bigger.

Will PM Jacquie and April to let them know and change the top to reflect this.

Ok, I'll give it a try. Last time I tried flying geese, I failed miserably. Maybe I'll have better luck this time.

Here we are...
4 blocks made!!
I'm very pleased with them as usually my 'Flying geese' normally cause me a little concern, but this time they behaved themselves and were good geese rather than naughty geese!!!

It's been good practice for me as I tend to avoid patterns with geese in them.
