Remeber this from 2011?

Post by maryq » Sun Sep 02, 2012 11:35 am

Finally put the RWB blocks from LAST summer together.

Am thinking another border in white all the way around...

suggestions please?

the sashing stips are cut length wise from some fabric I found at Joann... got enough to do the backing in the same fabric. This weekend (9-8) I hope to audition some borders.. Taking a picture is a great idea

Mary...What I usually do is try a couple of colors say the White, maybe Red and Blue...then take a picture of each one and put in on the computer. Something about taking a picture and stepping back makes all the difference in the world.

I love this quilt. You did such a great job on it.

I remember it cause my Flag block is upside down but then again it all depends on which side you are looking at it - LOL!!!!

Maybe a Print with a white background.

Joan - You are sew right!!!! I have gotten into the habit of doing that :)

Hey! I have a quilt almost identical to that! In fact, I'm looking at mine even as I type. It's hanging on a wall. I did another border. I put a blue field in the upper right corner and applqiued yellow stars on it. The rest of the border are alternating red and white blocks. So it looks like the quilt is in the middle of a giant American flag. I think a photo of it is in the thread from last summer if you want to see it.

and now that you mention it, I think it's time to take it down and hang another quilt - I think my lodge quilt.

Mary Margaret, I love how you assembled your quilt. Nice sashing.

I still have mine to sew. I look at all the beautiful blocks, but can't decide what to make as sashing, borders, etc...

Please post a picture when yours will be completed! :-)

Looks wonderful - I can't wait to get mine out of it's hiding place and get it finished!

Mary, What a beautiful quilt. I love the sashing and border you used. Is that some striped fabric or did you put all that together?

I agree with Joan. I don't take pics but I do lay a very large piece of fabric on the bed and lay the quilt or table runner on top of it to see if I like that border. Then I try several others. You can just fold up some fabric in the approximate width of your border and spread along one side to get an idea if it works or not. Just using a small swatch of fabric doesn't give you the overall look, especially if the blocks are all a little diff.

Whatever you do, it will be perfect. I like it just the way it is but a border may just enhance some color in all the blocks too. God bless as you quilt and inspire others to finish up theirs.

Hugs, Shirley Mae
