In the QIAD Log Cabin Book I saw that you can get a very nice size Lap Quilt out of 12 blocks so the "Hand of the Picker" picked 3 winners this month.
CONGRATULATIONS to
LINDA (2nd time winner) 03113260000172804905
JANA (2nd time winner) 03113260000172804875
VIVIAN (1st time winner) 03113260000172804882

Forgot to tell DH how to send them and he saw that there was enough money to send Priority so you should be getting them on the 16th - YEA!!!

Hi my Lotto Pals!!!
I just received my Connecting Threads catalog and got to thinking.
Have you ever waited to long to buy fabric that you know you will need in a few months only to have them gone when you get around to buying them ... Well wait no more!!!

Lets get an early start on Christmas by making ... QIAD's LOG CABIN ... using Christmas colors!!!!
http://vimeo.com/30004941'>http://vimeo.com/30004941

Here is a vimeo showing Eleanor teaching you the Log Cabin BUT ...

* BLOCK IS A 14"+ unfinished
*** ALL STRIPS will measure 2.5"

** NO PLAIDS or prints with black in them ... Please :)

* Center Square = RED - Print or TOT
* WHITE and GOLD PRINTS and TOT's = the UPPER LEFT side of the Block * GREEN PRINTs and TOT's = the LOWER RIGHT side of the Block

* Yes your prints may have other Christmas colors in them as long as the Green's and the Whites are the dominant colors and you have a DEFINITE CONTRAST.

* You will need to square-up your blocks as you sew on each strip to be sure that by the time you add your last strip you have a 14"+ unfinished square block :) :)

**********************************************************
As always when making your blocks ...
* HAVE FUN!!!
* Make as many blocks as you would like tickets for.
* Keep an eye on your measurements "after each step" of the pattern.
* DON'T SQUARE UP YOUR BLOCKS
* Please make sure they measure 14"+. The winner squares them up when she sews them together :)

* 1 ticket for early sign-ups
* 1 ticket for every block you send
* 1 extra ticket for each block that measures 14"+ BEFORE you send them to me. This is A MUST.
* 1 ticket if the blocks are IN MY HANDS by the LAST DAY of the MONTH
* 1 ticket for sending visible $2 to help with shipping. If you send alot of blocks could you please consider sending $3 :)
* 1 ticket for poetic bribes to the "Hand of the Picker" :)

** 5 EXTRA TICKETS if you post a PICTURE of all the Monthly Lotto Blocks you have made for your "End of the Year Quilt" ;0) :) :)

Of course I am in. Made log cabin blocks before, but they didn't turn out like I thought, so this will give me a chance to try them again.

And I for sure will get the extra 5 tickets because I have all my year end blocks in a big zip lock bag just waiting for the end of the year.

WOOHOO!!! Glad you are all liking this block. Christmas In July = a cool refresher to the heat :) :)

Jo - the trick to this block is to measure each square as you sew on each strip. It is easier to tweek there than it is to rip out strips to get to the right one that needs to be fixed.

I learned this trick as I've had alot of practice. I "Labored of Love" over fixing the most of the squares in my friends King Size quilt.

I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT - WE ALL CAN!!!!!

Just WATCH THE MEASUREMENT CHANGES ....

*** Your STRIPS will measure 2 1/4"
*** Your RED's CENTER SQUARE will measure 2 1/2"

HAPPY SHOPPIN' and STITCHIN'!!!!!

I just watched the video and I would like to join this month. Please add me to your list. Great idea Teresa!!!

Are we going to do them like the video, starting with the white/TOT next to the center red as the first strip added?

Linda

Welcome Linda!!!
That is a great question!!!

After watching the vimeo again ... the answer will be YES we will START WITH A RED AND WHITE SQUARE NEXT TO EACH OTHER ... BUT it doesn't have to be a White TOT. It can be a Gold TOT or Print as long as the WHite or Gold is the dominant color. We want to have lots of color and great contrast in this quilt :) :)

Thanks so much for asking the question.

*********************************************
OK It is 12:37am and I have been working on this block since 10:30pm and I just can't seem to make it 12.5". This one is 13".
SO .........To make your life easier and less confusing .....
for the Lotto we will be making the 14" block using the 2.5" strips.

I sure hope no one has made any blocks yet. If you have please feel free to send them or keep them BUT tell me you made them and I will give you tickets for them either way. I trust you to be honest :) :)
