Almost November - Can you believe it? WOW!!!!
We have been playing with fall colors so I think it is time to play with Christmas colors and taking our cue from Jules and Eleanor! We will be STRIPPING with 2 ½” strips!!!!
I absolutely love Jules “Strip Quilt” in the Photo Thread so much that I got to thinking that it would be a great choice to use Christmas colors and looks very easy and quick.
So here it is …
* Colors are any WASHED 2 1/2" strips of Christmas Reds, Greens, Blues and Gold Prints with Whites TOT’s.
* Please use small to small/medium prints that show really great in the strip. (ie... tiny candy canes on green background would work)
* No glitter, solids or silvers (to close to white) please.
* Use a SCANT 1/4" seam
* The block MUST, MUST MEASURE 6” or MORE – PLEASE measure before you send it.
* DO NOT square up your blocks.
* DO NOT sew the 4 small 6" blocks together
* 4 Small 6” blocks = a Big 11 1/2” block = 1 ticket
* Please use GOOD QUALITY fabrics.
********* We will be tagging a little different this month *****
"Print" your name on a piece of paper then attach it to your individual blocks either with a pin or baste it with thread in the corner of a print and not the WOW. Stack all your blocks in a pile right side up.
Then place ALL of them in one baggie and send them to me.
This way I can sort them according to color to make sure the winners get a great selection of ALL the colors made.
* Above all have fun choosing your colors and making your blocks.
1 ticket = early sign-up by November 1st

1 ticket = 4 small 6" blocks pinned or placed in a baggie
2 tickets = if you send $2.00 for shipping to the winners.
1 ticket = if you bribe hostess with a Christmas treat of fabric

THANKS JULES! Hope our quilts look as fun as yours does!

Ok, heres my direction ...
First cut 4 x WOF strips at 2 ½ “ wide – 2 from white, or white on white and 2 from Christmas fabrics.
Sew one Christmas fabric with one white fabric along one long side, do this twice so you have 2 pieces both with a Christmas fabric and a white fabric, press seams to dark
Lay one piece on top of the other piece so a dark is on top of the white and white is on top of the dark, sew along both long edges so you are effectively making a tube
Then cut your triangles out from the strip – i used my QIAD 6 ½ “ square up ruler and put the 6” line along the seam and cut out a triangle, then moved it along and cut another, and another.....I managed to get 8 triangles out of the strip
Unpick the few stitches at the top of the point and open up and press toward the dark, you now have your square, 4 of these makes the block
I have just measured mine and it makes a 6” square, so when you put 4 together it will make a 11 ½ “ square
So one tube will yield 8 6" squares which equals 2 blocks

***IMPORTANT!!!***
Mary is right. You need to use SCANT 1/4" SEAMS and also to MEASURE BEFORE TUBING.
This quilt block requires VERY ACCURATE PIECING. If your seams are more than 1/4" your block will turn out too narrow.
****** Before sewing your tubes, please do this little test:
Sew (2) 2 1/2" strips together. 1-WOW, 1-print. Press. Measure this unit. It should be EXACTLY 4 1/2" wide. Each side measure 2 1/4".
If it is short in width, you need to adjust your seam allowance a bit narrower. If it measures wider than 4 1/2", you need a bit more seam allowance.
After you sew your tube measure from SEAM to SEAM. That should be 4". If not then make your seams smaller BEFORE you cut the triangles.
Practice again, remeasure. Find what YOU have to do to get that right seam allowance so that the pieces will fit together right.
Thanks for double checking your stitchin".
This is going to make a number of AWESOME QUILTS!
