Re: Help!!!
Hi grannysparlor, welcome to this wonderful forum. You'll have a lot of fun here. Since you posted in the Swap section, are you interested in joining is a swap? There are different types of swaps, some where you make blocks and send them to a hostess and then she swaps everyone's and send each person a set. Some are Round robin, some are just fabric swaps and some are sew alongs. If you see a post that interests you, pm (private message) just by clicking on the little envelope beside the name, and the hostess will give you more info. Usually the instructions are posted in the discussion. Then say you want to join that swap and you're in.
You may also want to join in some of the Projects from the heart. Again, pm the hostess when a discussion group is posted.
A good suggestion I would make is to take a bit of time and read the posts in the swap topics and the projects from the heart. This will give you a good idea of how it's done. Hope you will join in.
And if you have a question about a technique, procedure, etc, post the question and someone and most likely several someones will post an answer. hugs, carol/kittyquilt

Re: Help!!!
We were all beginners and/or newbies at one time or another.
The first thing I joined on this forum was a simple fabric swap.
No sewing involved. Just cut the fabric as described by the hostess (for example: Jelly Rolls are 2 1/2 inches wide by width of fabric/WOF- which is about 42-22" wide), fat quarters (FQ) are 18" by 22", charms are squares of fabric size chosen by hostess, etc.
Block swaps are sewn units, hostess chooses pattern, size, colors, etc. Each one sends a designated number of blocks by a set date.
Projects From the Heart can be almost anything, each one is different, but they are all for someone in need - disaster victims, cancer patients, troops, children going to foster homes, etc.
As has been said, just read the posts and if something interests you, just ask any questions you might have. You'll get a number of responses and lots of support and encouragement.
One word of advice: start slowly, allow yourself time to complete one commitment before picking up another one. Most of us have learned this from experience.
Welcome aboard, come on in the water's fine.

Re: Help!!!
Welcome Grannysparlor! Don't be shy, just jump right on in!
The monthly lotto is fun, especially if you want to use up your stash. You make a particular block in a particular color scheme and send them in. Send 2 blocks, get 2 chances to win, or you can make and send 4 blocks. If your name is drawn, TA DAH! You get all the blocks everyone has sent in for the month! Sometimes there are enough blocks that the hostess will draw 2 or 3 names and divvy them up....
The July Block Lotto is going on if you want to play; it's posted in the Swaps category.
