Anyone still interested in CindyB's Different Kind of Swap?

Back in January '09 CindyB wondered if anyone would be interested in a different kind of swap -- a cross between a block swap and a Secret Pal (kind of). When her husband had health problems, I told her I would host the swap if anyone was still interested. Here are the basic ideas from the original post:

---you will be making a sampler quilt, sending each block to a different partner

---every 2 weeks a new block will be posted, and you MUST make that block and send it to your partner by the end of the two weeks >>> You can send one block in a regular business sized envelope. :o)

---everyone who signs up would send me their address, and I will make a master list for everyone so you will have all the addresses; every two weeks I would post a list of partners for the new block

---all the blocks will be EASY 12" pieced blocks (no applique)

---each person in the swap will post the 'focus color(s)' they would like to use for the quilt >>> Also list: White on white or cream? Any fabrics you want to avoid? (batiks, '30's, Civil War, neons, etc.)

I think I would like to call this a SEND ALONG, SEW ALONG quilt. When you make the block for your partner, you could also make one for yourself in your own colors. This would give you more blocks for your quilt.

I was thinking we would make 12 or 15 different blocks. Anyone who doesn't think they could keep up with the every-two-week-commitment could do just the 'sew along' part.
If you do sign up, it would be very important to keep up and make the blocks for your partners.

We could start as early as June 1, and be finished before Christmas. If we wait too long, we may have to take a break around Christmas-time, and finish in 2010. (Or do less blocks.)

So...... is there any interest in this kind of swap?

I forgot to mention sewcarolyn's suggestion that we include a 6" square of the main fabric we use in the block for our partner. Then she (or he) could use it to make a final block with all the different fabrics, or use it in a border or as cornerstones for sashings if she (or he) wanted to.

What do you think? Should I add that to the list?

Also, any preference on the number of blocks? If we only have 8 or 9 people sign up, do you still want to do this and end up with someone as a partner twice?

And katiekoala's concern is about the extra time it takes to send things between continents. Does anyone have a problem with that? I think it would be okay for her partner to know she will receive her block a week or two late, since any Kathy gets from North America would be late getting to her.

If I didn't mention it before, this is not a secret partner kind of swap. You would know who should be sending you a block and who you are sending a block to.

Which makes me wonder... Do you want to send to the same person who is sending to you each time? Or would you rather have it be more like Secret Pals, where each person has a different partner?

Decisions, decisions..........

I'm okay with sending a 6" square; YES...also okay with the continent delay and I personally would prefer to have the same partner.

My 2cents,
