swap idea

Hey, gals and guys, anyone have an interest in doing an "orphan block" swap, to start after the first of the year?

I was thinking of putting my orphan blocks in a box and sending it along its way. Then when it is received, for every block you take out, you put one of your own in. Then it's mailed to the next person on the list.

Y'all think this might work? Any input appreciated!

Carole, that sounds like a great idea for a swap, you can count me in if you start it up.

I like this idea. You can sign me up for this too, if it's a go.

I'm starting a list in my "master" notebook in case of computer problems...

And DH wonders why I still keep my favorite recipes on 3x5 cards in a metal box.....!

Any fabric restrictions??? I have a few blocks left over from projects, but alas, they are not LQS fabric.

Since people will be selecting the blocks they like I don't know why there would be a problem with what you put in the box. Sometimes fabrics from other sources are just as good of a quality. I know I hate one of the background fabrics from Victory Gardens it is thin and frays yet a similar fabric from JoAns is heavier and didn't stretch and fray.

This sounds like a really fun idea. However, I won't be able to participate because I don't have any orphan blocks. Where would I go to get orphan blocks? I haven't seen any listed at QIAD. HUGS, carol/kittyquilt

carol/kittyquilt LOL
just make some blocks you would like to try even though you know you won't make enough for a full quilt..I have a couple of blocks that I made and decided they were too complex for a whole quilt..and 1 I just didn't like after I finished it. Those are my orphans.

Kittyquilt, like sewcarolyn said, you can use any blocks you have lying around unused.

I know, without searching, that I have a few extra log cabin blocks from my nephews' graduation quilts. I have a few of Christmas fabrics. And now I have two pseudo-Prairie Queen blocks, too, made for the November block lotto. They didn't turn out to be suitable for the lotto (at least IMV) but they are pretty and someone else might really like them.

Sometimes if I am feeling restless or upset, I will make a block from scraps just for the heck of it. It's good therapy and soothes me when I am feeling nasty--! The mental challenge of making an unfamiliar pattern gets my mind off my gripes. The block may not be something I will ever use, but if it gets me through the day without losing my temper, it's all good!
