Advise needed for a quilt I just do not like

Our guild started a mystery quilt some months ago.
I signed up to do the mystery, however, the more I work on it the less I like it. I have to force myself to even get it out.
We are supposed to havethem ready to show at next meeting, I don't even have all the blocks done and can't get motivatied to do them. When I look at this project I feel myself trying to find something else to do. I have had it on the UFO buster for two months and still making little progress.
The colors are not 'mine' that may be the problem???
Has anyone else run into this and what did you do about it?

Maybe put the top together and then donate it to the guild to finish and raffle off... it is hard to get motivated when your heart is not in it and maybe that would give you motivation!!! Hang in there!

Cheers!

Think of it as a charity quilt -- finish it and donate it to a hospice or women's shelter. Maybe that would help with motivation. :O)

Hi Majik -- 3 plus years later, I'm still working on a BOM quilt that I hate! My lqs offered this BOM and I immediately signed up for it. Unfortunately, I didn't know what I was signing up for...the sample wasn't on view yet, she didn't have a picture of it, but I trusted the owner. That taught me a very valuable and costly lesson! As soon as I saw the quilt -- I HATED it!!! Eggplant purples, 70's gold and olive greens -- I shiver just thinking of this quilt! I made it to 3 sessions -- then I would just go pick up my kit each month, and put the kits in a drawer. I did, however, purchase the backing and other panels for it, prior to my LQS closing, so I do have everything to complete it.

This quilt has been my "do you want to see the ugliest quilt ever started" when family and friends would come over and want to see my projects. I figured I would someday finish it, then send it to my family reunion for our auction (I'd send it the year I'm NOT able to attend...LOL). I ended up showing it to my 32 yr old daughter, and she loves it!! Go figure! I've made some beautiful quilts and wallhangings for her, with little reaction, but she loves this one and is always asking me if I have finished it yet. Unfortunately for her, I made an error on one of the blocks and I can't find that fabric...I will have to use one of the other ugly fabrics to remake that block -- so it is on the way bottom of my to-do list....there are just too many pretty quilts out there to work on, to worry about ugly ones.

Anyway, I fully understand what you are saying! I do have to admit, when I "loose" something in my sewing room, that "ugly quilt" is the first thing to always pop up! Good luck, happy trails, jacquie

I agree, I've started several quilts like that. I just force myself to finish it to "get it out" and then either donate it to the quild for a fundraiser auction item or to a women's shelter. It's amazing how others really like the colors/pattern while we who worked on it didn't. "...in the eyes of the beholder" applies here. LOL You'll feel better after you finish it and give it away.

It is hard to finish something we don't like working on...we all have those projects...quilts, cleaning closets, cleaning the garage....but once done it is sometimes amazing that the project all of a sudden has some worth. However if you only have a few blocks completed and you really don't want to spend the time and the money to complete the project can you use those blocks to make a small lap quilt, a tote or a table runner. I bet the others in the guild will understand especially with the holidays approaching there are other projects you would probably love to work on. Quilting and doing any type of art should be enjoyable and not work..

I agree, if you think of it as a charity quilt then it is easier to work on. Once you are done you could donate it to Project Linus, that is my favorite charity to make quilts for, I like to know I am giving a quilt to a little boy or girl who will find comfort in it.

A Match?

Just kidding. A great Christmas gift, you know a do it yourself kit.

What are the colors anyway???
