10' Christmas Fabric swap -Reds,Greens, Light Golds -**CLOSED** Due Nov 15 to Beth

Post by bethstreet » Sun Aug 10, 2008 9:24 pm

Hello fellow Quilters,
PLEASE NOTE*** From the envelopes that have come in so far, I can see there is no way that I will be able to fit all the bags of fabric into the priority rate paper envelope. I will be able to fit them into the small flat rate box which costs $9.60 to mail anywhere in the USA. ***

I have decided that I need to list this swap a tiny bit early as I have a granddaughter due right about the time I would originally have had this come in. Signups close Sept 30 swaps due to me by Nov 15th.

This swap is for 10" squares that are in a traditional green, red or pale gold ( off white or cream is also ok) white makes it look too stark. This doesn't mean solid colors. It is totally ok to have other things on the fabric as long as when you look at it you can tell its predominant color. So metallic trims, small dots and so on are perfect. Please no Santas ( thats another swap and no juvenile fabrics)

Please put 4 10"squares in each bag,1 red, 1 pale gold and 2 green. I am looking to make a "O Christmas Tree" lap quilt with KARLA Alexanders pattern which can be found on her website www.saginawstreetquilts.com and at several quilt stores. She has three different methods for making the quilt. The green squares are the tree, red are the borders on tree and pale gold is the background. Only one pattern calls for the fabric to shabby like the one pictured on the pattern.

www.saginawstreetquilts.com'>www.sagina ... quilts.com

We will only be making the number of bags that is equal to the number of people who sign up to participate unless I hear differently from you. Please label your bags with at least your pen name. Fabrics do need to be washed , you can add 1/2 c. vinegar to the rinse cycle and it will help especially the red from bleeding in succeeding washes. Then place all your small bags into one large ziploc bag for mailing.

** Please include cash, check , or money order to cover the cost of mailing your squares back to you in a flat rate priority envelope. I am getting a batch of these from the post office so there is no need to send me ONE**. SO NO STAMPS OR ENVELOPES OR LABELS NEEDED!! I print up all my postage online from the post office and that way we get automatic delivery confirmation and its free. The cost is $9.60 , you get a discount for printing online... and its a flat rate for the box.

Would you need mostly greens to do this???
Like - 2 or 3 greens, 1 red and/or white?
How many blocks are needed for the quilt?

I am collecting these my self for this specific pattern but that does not mean you have to as well.

For this particular pattern, Yes, the ratio is about 2-3 greens to one red and pale gold(cream or off white). Hence the tree is green, the outer border of the quilt is the red and the background inside is the cream, pale gold or off white.

This exchange is probably not going to complete the quilt pattern but it will give you a good headstart. The reason I chose this for the exchange was to get the scrappy look you need a variety of fabrics. The pattern requires 9" squares red-4, green-22 pale gold -18 and then you will also need 7 1/2" squares red-76,green 84 and pale gold 56.

Should I cancel this swap... doesn't seem to be gathering much interest especially since there are many other swaps due around the same time?? My feelings wont be hurt... just dont want to add a burden where none is intended.

Beth,
Maybe you could extend the sign up time.

I like the Christmas Tree pattern, although I would rather have the seams on the inside. I can't make up my mind about whether I have the time to handle one more swap or not. I think I have to get my daughter off to college (Sept. 1) before I can decide.
