Ladies, I am thinking of starting a Birthday Block exchange on here for 2009. You would sign up in groups of 12,and would receive 12 names,along with their birthdates,color preferences,etc.Before I post any more specifics,I just want to kind of get a feel for who might want to do this. I have done three,and its really a lot of fun,but it does require committment,,,so the plan usually has some back ups etc. for when someone has to drop out for reasons beyond their control.In a couple of swaps a few would sign up and then leave and the recipients got no blocks. But I have to say,that was on another forum,and the gals on here are more caring and dedicated than the ones I have been in before.Please send me a PM if you think this would be a GO,and Ill keep a list and decide based on positive feedback!!! More info,,,,OK, I have had some PMs and interest on here,so Im gonna go for it. Ill sart taking names and make up groups at the end of the year to be sent out to start Januarys blocks.

Here is the basic concept. Twelve to a group. The recipient sends me their name ,address ,forum name and e mail address.( these are confidential and only sent to swap recipients). They tell me their color choices,block size ,pattern,etc. I will try to assign everyone to a list that pretty much spread out the birthdays so there arent a lot on your list in one month.

To make the swap do able for all members, I ask that the recipient not ask for fabrics that may have to be ordered on line or might be hard to come by.We live in a time when we all feel the pinch,and we want this to be fun and affordable.
Please make sure your fabric is washed ,so we dont have bleeders.
I would start a post each month for each group so you can post when you have sent and received blocks..( your group will have its own name). Since its a surprise,,,no pics except from the reciever.

Thats pretty much it.
Now for a few details that need addressed. Sometimes,for whatever reason,someone might need or just want to drop out. If that happens,no problem, but please be fair and let me now ahead so some one else can volunteer to take your spot. I will ask for "pinch hitters" who will be willing to fill in and go the extra mile if they can.
Again,please ask for "beginner friendly" blocks,,,and do not request applique,,however, you may do applique if the receiver asks for a "quilters choice"...

As for the lists, I will e mail them to you,keep a master,and of course you send your block to them,not me. Im just the list and rule maker! LOL! If you want to add something else,like a card or a small goody,that is your choice,but not a requirement.

Caroline, I'm interested, but I have to think on it a bit. A couple questions, as usual from me. This is unfamiliar to me, so pls bear with my questions. How many blocks do we make a month? Who gets the blocks each month? Since it's a "Birthday Block Exchange" does everyone make a block for the person in their group having a birthday that month? So, we would be making just 1 block? Or? Kitty, you would get a list of 12 names,,,you would make a block for everyone on your list for his/her birthday. I will try to fix the lists so you dont have more than a couple a month,,,but in ones I have been in I have done 1 a month up to 3 ,,,but some months there were no birthdays at all. On your birtday,you will get blocks from all the others in your group...Does this explain it ok??? This is a year long project,,,so theres not a lot of pressure.Usually two or three birthdays a month,and its one block that you can fit in a regular evvelope if you want...
