4 Patch I-Spy. COMPLETE.

Post by CraftinDJ » Thu Mar 06, 2008 5:41 am

Well I've just been told anyone can host a swap. A few of you expressed interest in the block I used for my Here Kitty Kitty quilt. I also know there are alot of you I-Spyers out there. I was thinking about a 4 Patch I-Spy swap (12" finished block). Anyone interested.

Did you want everyone to use the same 'other' design on the two patches that are not I Spy fabrics? (Three stripes?) Or could they just be solid or tone-on-tone squares that coordinate?

I'll do it if they aren't due until the end of May or later. I have a lot of Sun Bonnet Sue blocks to complete by the end of April. Lori

Wow that was fast.

Let's say June 2nd due date. The blocks are any 2-6 1'2" focus fabric (print) plus 2-6" 1/2 inch any brights rail blocks. I will be using my blocks to make two twin size quilts for my DBSs (Joshua-Tyler 5 and Michael Christian 22 months). When picking prints - think I-Spy and when picking colors think bright and lively.

Did I explain that okay?

How many blocks would each person need to make?

Also do the rail pieces go in that same orientation as you show?

Lynn it is a four patch. Just make sure your focus fabric blocks are across from each other as well as the rail blocks across from each other.

Rails are 2 1/2" wide for a 6 1/2" finished block. If any you collect strings or have been in string swaps - this is a good use for them.

I am not sure what an I spy means. Is there something particular about the fabric I would need to know? May want to join but would like to know more first.

An I Spy fabric is just a novelty print with things that a child can play the game "I Spy with my little eye...". The prints can be animals, bugs, food, sports, TV characters, etc. Anything that comes in a novelty print can be an I Spy fabric.

That is, unless the hostess has specific rules about the novelty fabric.

Thanks Lynn for clarifying I was away this weekend. Remember 12 blocks is 36x48 before sashing and borders - a baby quilt size. If you sign up for 24 blocks would be 48x60 before sashing and borders - a nice throw. This can be run again for a second round if there is more interest for additional blocks. My quilt used 35 blocks for a 60x84 with a 5" border. I didn't think it needed any sashing because the blocks have soooo much going on in them. I make 10 blocks last night. They really do go together extremely fast. Once you make your rail components. I just cut 3- 2 1/2" strips and so them the length of the fabric and cut into 6 1/2" lengths. Add to the 6 1/2" squares and viola. Remember you will need 2 - 6 1/2" square focus fabrics and your 2- 6 1/2" square rail blocks should be different. So it will take 2 different focus fabrics and 6 different fabrics for your rails. Use the picture as a guide.
