Chriss- yes, I keep the iron next to me so I can just swivel around to the little ironing table and iron my little pieces as I go.

Mary- I keep plenty of seam rippers next to me so I can so the same. ;)

I'm not in this swap but I am enjoying reading all your posts and admiring all the blocks! So forgive me if I weigh in on a couple of your questions. As usual, I can't help myself.

I cut out pieces for just the first block and sew it together so I know if I need to make any adjustments. Only when I know it's right, do I cut the rest of the blocks.

LUCIE - when you measure before cutting, are you measuring on the mat or with the ruler. The mats aren't as accurate as the rulers. Also, do you have a 1/4" foot? Have you measured the seam allowance it makes? And like Chriss suggested, you can move your needle a click or two to the right.

Wish I'd brought all my red fabrics, but I just couldn't bring my whole stash in our trailer. So I'll have to be happy with watching all of your blocks come to life!

Maryz, I think I've got the problem licked. Yes, I measured with the ruler. In fact I checked both ways and the ruler won. (I had bought a new cutting mat; the last one warped badly, it was a Fiskars) And yes, a serious quilter always makes sure her new machine (Viking Designer1) comes with a 1/4 inch foot. I also measured the seam allowance many times. These are the kind of things I check before I start on a project. It saves my frazzled nerves and makes the project enjoyable.

I made a perfect block yesterday after using the scant 1/4 inch seam allowance. Thanks for the tips Mary!

I am meeting my minigroup in Sonoma at Broadway Quilts for our monthly sew in. They are so nice there - they let us use their classroom. Of course we do drop a few coins while there. But will work on my blocks there - may need to pick up some more red. Hopefully I will have a pic to post later.

Hi....

Starting my blocks buy washing fabric today. Then the ironing. I'll need to buy some WOW. I do not have any.

The blocks posted so far look good. I'm so excited. I'm off to the washer.

Chriss do you want the blocks sq'ed up? I haven't read all the posts & you might have told us.

Yvette, your blocks are here and are just beautiful...thank you for following the directions perfectly...

Vinae, I have to get up to iron and to cut.. my room is about 10x10 so it's very small...

Maryz.. I wish you had brought your reds with you too.. but be patient. Vinae has another swap up her sleeve and when hers is done I will have one to follow...

Lucie, for me it never fails... I get called to "help" DH or to do something equally important and when I come back and turn on my machine I forget to adjust it back to 1/4 inch.. wish that were automatic on my machine.

Mary, hope you got lots done at the group meeting...

Izzy, my goodness isn't that beautiful... amazing how swapping out the colors can change the way a block looks...it looks like a beautiful red to me... it will be a beautiful quilt...

Kathy, nope, don't square them up... it's 12 1/2 unfinished... have you picked a block yet?

Debbie, why am I not having to wash my red fabric so many times like you all are? maybe to be safe I will toss it in the washer again with a white sock to be sure...do all reds run?

you girls are doing great.. I love that you are all talking.. keeps the swap in your thoughts...

happy sewing
