I’ve learned some things while working on these blocks. A fat quarter will give you ten 6-1/2” bow ties if you cut in the correct direction. If you are not careful with your measurements, you will only get nine. Feel free to ask me how I know this. Also, this pattern isn’t very forgiving. I Cut very generously allowing an extra two to three threads in each square I cut. I sewed scant seams and, while none of my blocks are too small, there’s not much to trim off of anything for squaring up, which of course, I’m not doing So be aware-if you cut true 3-1/2” squares and sew true 1/4” seam, your blocks may be a little undersized. But I still love this block!

Vinae, thanks for giving Beverly a heads up.

Maryz, As soon as I saw the pieces of this block were only to be cut
3 1/2 inches and 1/4 inches of that was a seam I knew they needed to be cut a bit bigger. yay for getting so many out of a FQ.

Hi Everyone! Vinae told me about your swap. I'm going to try the pattern this weekend & then I'll let you know if I'll join. It's a cute pattern! :) Are they all supposed to be different fabrics or can we make duplicates?

Since I'm traveling and don't have my scraps along, I've used mainly four different fabrics for my bow-ties. So everyone will get the same blocks as everyone else, but the four each person gets will be four different fabrics. Hope this makes sense.

Beverly, the goal is to use up your scraps. when you make one 6 inch block the bow tie should be of the same fabric. check the picture on the website. each 12 inch block is made from 4 different bow ties.

You can do like Maryz and make yours using 4 different colors or you can use up those scraps and make many different color as long as the bow tie in each block is made of the same fabric.

Let me know if I have confused you further. It's not my goal but I am a pro at it.

Hello Everyone:

I would like to join the swap. This is the first time I’ve participated in one of these. I’m looking forward to it.

Thank you,
Mary
